“Being here is emotionally challenging, but when you realize you can save someone’s life, everything else fades away”

Without collusion, Lyudmila (“Lyalya”) and Dima (“Delta”), PDMSh volunteer medics, explain their stay at the front with the exact words: at this time, we are needed here more than anywhere else.

Lyalya, hailing from Uzhhorod, works in a hospital’s intensive care unit, while Delta, a Kyivan, serves as an ambulance doctor.

Lyalya once had a terrible accident. Then her doctor told her, “You survived. Fight, and you will live.”

“So will Ukraine,” says she. “It endured, survived, and is fighting. We will win, and Ukraine will live and thrive.”

“I understand that it’s dangerous here,” Delta acknowledges. “But during my month here, I’ve come to better realize the value of life.”

“I’ll continue coming here as long as it takes,” he added.

“Being here is emotionally challenging,” Lyalya admits. “But once you’re immersed in the work and realize you can save someone’s life, everything else fades away.”
