Anesthesiologist Vasyl/Patrick: “In essence, we are both military tourists and medical professionals here”
One look at Vasyl is enough to understand why he has a “slightly Irish” nickname — “Patrick.”
Vasyl Filip, an anesthesiologist, is already on his third mission with PDMSh. Despite not feeling a strong draw to the front lines, he carries a sense of duty deep within his soul. He humbly downplays his contribution to Ukraine’s defense and expresses great admiration for the military defenders, whom he refers to as the “titans on which our faith in victory rests.”
At the stabilization point, “Patrick” is attached to one of the anti-shock wards, where a doctor gives first medical aid to the wounded brought from the battlefield.
“In essence, we are both military tourists and medical professionals here. That’s how I would describe the doctors and paramedics who make up the PDMSh personnel,” says Vasyl/Patrick. “I don’t want to polarize the need to be either here or in civilian life. PDMSh allows combining career, development, and training with helping the army.”
