“Under stress, you need to do everything as quickly as possible and ensure safety both for the injured and yourself,” says Anna Bilyk

According to anesthesiology intern Anna Bilyk (“Bilka”), Russians at the front deliberately fire on medics and even specially wait for Ukrainians to come to pick up their fallen or wounded. And yet, Ukrainian medics sometimes have to treat wounded aggressors.

“You never guess who has got on your table,” says Anna. “He [the wounded Russian] can tell you that he’s just a soldier, and then it turns out he is an officer. Quite a right person for exchange.”

“Bilka” joined the Pirogov First Volunteer Mobile Hospital (PDMSh) in 2022. Since then, she has completed six PDMSh missions. She worked in resuscitation teams and at stabilization posts that regularly came under Russian fire.

“When you work under stress, you need to do everything as quickly as possible and ensure safe conditions for both the injured and yourself,” Anna tells journalist Dmytro Tuzov.

Learn more about “Bilka” and her work at PDMSh in the fresh interview within the media project “PDMSh: It’s possible!” This project introduces “smart people who do useful things,” as Dmytro Tuzov puts it. “People who don’t go around in circles on the main TV channels.”
